Day 316 Sunday 11th November:

I've not been too good today as I have some sort of tummy upset. It has been football day again today as well. We have had a remote switch for a few years that turns off our plugs. It had stopped working and I saw one on sale at Aldis. Roland went to buy one and came home with 2 so our remotes are up and running again. WE have a lot of standby lights for different appliances and these remotes turn them off saving us electric.
I was going to do some tidying in the garden as it was a lovely day but didn't get round to it. I'll try again tomorrow before the bad weather comes in.
The prompt got me going in the loft to look for old photos and I had a lovely time reminiscing.
I decided I would tell you about Mary, our middle sister.
She was the mediator between Marion and I all her life. She went away to teachers training college in Matlock then taught in a village school in Shropshire. Later she went to work as a teacher for the forces in Germany. My children loved it when she came home, she was their favourite Auntie. When she was 27 she had a car accident  and she was killed and it devastated the whole family. My mum and dad never really got over it. I looked for a photo of her taken a few months before she died but I couldn't find it so I chose this one instead.

Memories

This is a photo of myself and my sisters.
Me on the left about 9 years old, Marion 3 years and Mary 6 years.
This photo was taken at Oxcroft in Derbyshire before we moved up to Crofton in Cumberland.

  1. What a sad story of your sister, that must have been devastating for you all. It makes the photos all the more precious.

  6. Ahh Viv, you must miss her so, especially if she was the gel between you and your sister. My mum was the same, easy going but her elder sister was a battle axe, well meaning but even in her 80s she could make my Mum feel like she 'had' to do things she wanted xx
